Long distance water skiing record broken in 10 days!

Australian Alex Luther has set a new long-distance water-skiing benchmark time, covering 5,000 km in 10 days, 2 hours, 17 minutes and 36 seconds. He thus improves by 2 hours and 17 minutes the record of his grandfather established in 1970.

Alex Luther, a 36-year-old Australian, had taken on the incredible challenge of breaking his grandfather's long-distance water skiing record. A record achieved in 1970 on a course of more than 5 000 km in 10 days, 5 hours and 36 minutes.

Starting from Tangier, Morocco on 26 June 2018, Alex won this challenge, crossing Cervia's Italian finish line 2 hours and 17 minutes ahead of his grandfather. In total, it will have crossed 7 different countries and made stopovers in 22 European cities, crossed 6 different seas, 1 strait and 2 gulfs.

From the tip of Africa - Tangier - he sailed along the Spanish, French and Monegasque, Italian and Croatian coasts and finished his journey in Cervia, Italy, in 10 days, 2 hours, 17 minutes and 36 seconds. A total of 3 699.3 kilometres. For his arrival, the young man was acclaimed by the crowd and authorities.

"It's surreal, I feel like I had a dream that started over seven years ago." alex said when he arrived.

For this challenge, Alex was towed by an Axopar 37 equipped for the occasion with the brand new V8 Verado 300 twin-mounted. On a monoski, he was towed by the waist and fully protected in a suit and helmet. Even if unfavourable weather conditions almost caused the challenge to fail, Alex was able to catch up by completing an exhausting 11-hour water-skiing stage between Barcelona and Monaco, covering 538 km !
