The year 2017 will not have been an easy one for Yann Guichard and his team, who were aiming for the Jules Verne Trophy record. After a first start was postponed due to the weather conditions at the start of January, Spindrift 2 dismasted before even crossing the starting line on a second attempt in mid-January. Spindrift 2 has been working at Multiplast in Vannes for 3 months and is preparing for a new attempt.
Indeed, as announced by the Spindrift Racing team on April 5, 2018, Yann Guichard and his crew are not abandoning the project and are still as keen as ever to take part. As such, the skipper has decided to rearm his gold and black trimaran with his original carbon mast, shortened by 6 metres for the Route du Rhum in 2014.
As such the trimaran will enter a stand-by period as early as next autumn in an attempt to become the fastest crewed round the world.
"This is a continuation of what we started a few years ago. Despite the few difficulties, our motivation remains intact and we are ready to take up the challenges. We've been sailing multihulls for the last six years on different types of boats and have a strong team both at sea and ashore and I have every confidence in them explains Yann Guichard.
