Top secret! Princess Yacht unravels the mystery of its sportboat project

The top secret project of Princess Yacht and BAR Technologies

The Anglo-Saxon shipyard Princess Yacht has worked in collaboration with BAR Technogloies (which draws on the experience of the Land Rover BAR team in the America's Cup to create innovative products) to create a motor boat of a "new kind" For the moment little information has filtered through, but a few images allow us to discover this new concept.

Princess Yacht - known for its range of sports boats - has just revealed its partnership with BAR Technologies to create a "revolutionary" boat. Indeed, on January 9th, the English magazine Motorboat & Yachting revealed stolen images of a mysterious sportboat on the forecourt of the Ben Ainslie Racing team in Portsmouth, forcing the English company to reveal a little more about this new boat, built in partnership with BAR Technologies. The studio has been designed to harness the design knowledge, resources and technical skills that BAR Land Rover Team brings to the America's Cup).

The English company has announced a "jewel" of technology and one of the most innovative boats of its generation, but we'll have to wait until we have more information and discover the boat in reality to judge..

"A new class of boat"

"This new boat - which has been spotted covered in animated camouflage at the Ben Ainslie Racing stable site - will establish a whole new class of yacht." indicates the English mark. For the moment little information has leaked out and Princess Yacht is having fun keeping the suspense going on this boat which will be presented in 2018. Perhaps we will have more information at Boot Düsseldorf, where the shipyard will present several new products.

This 30-foot boat is presented as fast and full of technology while remaining comfortable and with good seakeeping. Handcrafted in carbon fiber and with an innovative design, it should "offer an exhilarating experience and should be one of the most exciting and revolutionary boats Princess has developed. It will become the most sought-after boat of the year." says Antony Sheriff, Executive Chairman of Princess Yachts.

Bold coverage

The vessel discovered at Portsmouth was covered in a "Dazzle camouflage" covering, a colourful and eye-catching pattern designed to create confusion and camouflage the vessel's features. The design was created by Katie Sheppard of the Plymouth College of Art, winner of the Princess camouflage design competition.

This camouflage was originally designed by Norman Wilkinson for naval vessels in the early 19th century with a specific geometric pattern that created an illusion rather than concealment.

Hobbies or sports?

On the images of this new boat, we can see an open with a large deck at the bow which hides a cabin perhaps? The cockpit has two boslter-type pilot and co-pilot seats, slightly raised from the windscreen. The rear of the cockpit is occupied by a straight bench seat with behind it an engine hold accommodating two inboard engines with Z-Drive propulsion, and probably covered with a sunbathing area.
