Many organizations - such as La Macif or Glénans - offer sailing courses, whatever the desired objective: discover sailing, learn how to sail, master a particular skill, go regattas or go on an ocean cruise. You will be able to discover several sailing basins, according to your desires: Mediterranean, Atlantic or the English Channel..
Even if taking part in a sailing course costs less than having your own boat, you will still need a small budget (in the same way as for chartering).
Learn to sail
The main objective of sailing schools is to learn to sail. An ideal solution therefore for novices or enlightened amateurs in search of improvement. An interesting option also for experienced sailors as there is always a need to upgrade and learn new things.
There are several levels of training, depending on your level and what you wish to learn, but also mixed courses where you share your navigation with more experienced boaters who can share their knowledge.
Improve your skills
When you know how to navigate, and how to lead a boat autonomously (skipper), you sometimes hesitate about certain things you have learned. It is therefore possible to follow a training course with themes to develop a particular practice (specific maneuvers, special sailing ...). The schools also offer survival or safety courses.
Regatta
For yachtsmen who are particularly interested in regatta training, there are specific courses - with qualified practical trainers - which take place during real regattas. A certain level of sailing skills is required here. La Macif, for example, offers to take part in several regattas such as the Tour de Ré, the SNSM Trophy, the Rallye des Calanques, the Vire Vire, or the Tour de Belle Ile.
Sailing the long haul
Offshore courses allow you to sail for a long time (often two weeks) and to accumulate miles. You will discover cruises abroad where you sail with a crew, but independently (you manage your watches, night sailing...) and where you make decisions... A way to go on a cruise while learning.
