Faucoaldi 5.0, a chic and efficient raid dinghy

Faucoaldi 5.0 in the Gulf of Morbihan

For more volume and storage, here comes the big brother of the Faucoaldi 4.30. The new 5.0 is still just as chic, but provides greater stability with a liquid ballast integrated into the hull.

It's hard to make a name for yourself as a naval architect. It's even harder to sell your boats. And yet Benoit de Faucal continues to persist. In 2014, he had launched a 4.30 m dinghy which had the particularity of being rigged with a 420 m mast (to be discovered on Bateaux.com) . Or how to give a new lease of life to your equipment without changing everything.

He is back this year with a new 5.00 m model. It is still a dinghy, but this time its vocation is coastal raiding. In fact, this sailboat has a deck foredeck plus a small deckhouse, under which you can store a few things. The freeboards are also equipped with several stowages. Without it being possible to sleep on board, this sailboat will be able to take 3 adults for a ride in all simplicity.

For the rigging, the mainsail has a horn to limit the height of the mast and help the masting. The main idea of this sailboat remains to simplify all the launching and handling phases to increase sailing time.

Like the first model, the hull is strip-planking. A method of construction that allows hulls to be shaped and which adapts well to small series that cannot make a mould profitable.

The special feature of the 5.0 is its liquid ballast. The double bottom, under the cockpit hides an 80-litre reserve that can be filled with water. With this ballast, the 5.0 is less likely to capsize. This ballast makes it possible to adjust the weight of the boat according to the crew: when sailing solo, you can fill the boat to the brim, and when sailing with three people, you can leave it empty.

Very light, this sailboat can be launched and set up very quickly. With the presence of the ballast, the daggerboard well is totally invisible. Thus the cockpit bottom is completely flat, which is pleasant to move around on board.

The owner of the first copy wanted to be able to row. So he set up a swimming bench in the center. But an engine pan is provided on the transom. This one is designed for a small outboard, or rather an electric motor.

This beautiful sailboat is available at any level of construction. From just the digital files for an amateur builder to a fully finished boat. The selling price is not yet fully defined.
