When you have a know-how, a skill, a technicality, you might as well let it be known! This is the case of the Sailwood company based in Lorient for 2 years. The four craftsmen who make up this structure are not partridges of the year. Their skills are based on years of work in different shipyards.
The quality of this structure is twofold: both a thorough knowledge in woodworking, but also a technicality in the whole composite construction. Sailwood is both capable of building or renovating a traditional wooden old boat as well as making a mould for a carbon prototype!
Space for workshops
With 700 m2 of workshop which should see an extension of 1000 m2 at the end of 2017, Sailwood is able to accommodate all sizes of boats. And when they are too big, Sailwood moves to the yard or to the technical area. Less than 200 m from the workshop is the fairing area of Lorient with the biggest travelift in Europe (650 t). Under the hangars on the building site there is a carpentry workshop but also a painting or varnishing cabin.
Thus this company carried out the painting of the 60' IMOCA Initiative Coeur or completely refitted the Planet Solar catamaran (200 m2 habitable space with 6 cabins, 2 bathrooms...). So much for the most popular projects, but their skills are also used on the interior fittings of trawlers for example.
Able to make single parts
Recently the demand for glued laminated tiller has increased. This after-sales service for joinery no longer exists. Few companies are capable of producing this type of part individually. Sailwood has this competence.
In another area, Sailwood is currently working on an RM 1070 following a violent grounding. The entire aft of the canopy next to the rudder is sunk. The plywood has to be taken up again and the lamination has to be done at the same time.
A design office set up
In order to meet customer demand, Sailwood has set up a design office equipped with 3D software. With a visualization in space, it helps the customer to understand the final rendering and to validate the work without any final surprise.
