Watching Man, control and geolocate your boat from your smartphone

Watching Man, to ensure the safety of your boat

The Watching Man - designed by the Spanish company Marine Instruments - is a security and geolocation system that allows you to control your boat from your smartphone or computer. Thanks to wireless sensors, control, wherever you are, different functions of your boat (displacement, intruder, battery, engine).

Marine Instruments, an innovative and human company

Marine Instruments is a Spanish company that designs and manufactures electronic equipment, mainly for the fishing industry. 125 employees, 35% of which are engineers who work to offer ever more innovative products.

Leader in the fishing sector with the manufacture of satellite buoys for all types of fishing, the company decided to turn to the yachting sector. The idea: to use electronic components and fishing know-how to create the Watching Man.

The Watching Man, the intelligent remote control of your boat

The Watching Man is an intelligent security and geolocation system that allows you to control your boat remotely via the dedicated mobile application (Android & IOS) or via your computer. This system allows you to control many features such as displacement, breaking and entering, battery levels, heat sources, etc... The operation is simple, just position a wireless sensor, dedicated to a feature, at the indicated location within the boat and control the different alert levels through your smartphone (application) or computer. In case of problems, the system sends an alert within 10 seconds. The system also allows you to view the history of the last alarms over the last few months.

The system can be used on a boat based anywhere in Europe or the world as the Watching Man works with a built-in SIM card, which will automatically connect to local mobile services at no extra cost.

Bernard lives in Paris and sails only 2 to 3 weeks a year on his sailing boat, whose home port is Les Minimes, in La Rochelle. Thanks to the Watching Man - a monitoring and surveillance system - he knows if someone enters the cabin, if the boat moves, if the temperature changes... He is permanently connected to his boat and the application sends him alerts in case of anomalies. All he has to do is notify the harbour master's office or friends and relatives who can take over the visual control of the boat.

Control the movement of your boat

Thanks to the Watching Man's Geofence feature, a fictitious safety zone is delimited around the boat. Thus, when the boat leaves the zone, the alarm is activated to warn you of the displacement, whether it is due to human causes (theft) or natural causes (wind...).

Share your position with those around you

The Watching Man allows the geolocation of your boat, which you can share with your family and friends via the dedicated mobile application. Your friends and family can follow the boat's movement from their phone and check that it is on a normal course... A feature that is also useful in case of co-ownership to share their trip or cruise via their smartphone or via social networks.

From 20 miles off shore, communication with the Watching Man is interrupted as the system operates on the GSM network. However, it will continue to record your trip and will automatically reconnect once network coverage is regained.

Reduce your monthly insurance payments

Insuring a boat can be quite expensive and having the Watching Man in various locations on your boat can be reassuring and may encourage your insurer to reduce your monthly payments or negotiate a theft malus at a discount.

Check the battery level of your boat

Via the mobile application and thanks to the real-time voltage measurement, the abnormal drop in battery level can be checked. An important check that saves on battery maintenance.

100% European manufacturing

100% of Marine Instruments' products are manufactured in-house in Spain. This makes it possible to check production, but above all to be able to work on R&D and quickly propose new products. Every year, new sensors are developed and new features are added to the application. In November 2017, new sensors will be added to the range of alerts offered.

Easy installation

The Watching Man is an easy to install system that will not take more than an hour to set up, even for someone who is a novice. Thanks to the wireless system, the user can easily install its sensors on his boat. It is suitable for small boats, such as fishing cruisers, as well as large multihulls.

The system consists of a box (which contains an activation code to access your data), which connects to the power supply and in correlation with the application, receives alerts. And wireless sensors, which are positioned at the desired location, and control the levels below:

  • Control from your mobile phone or internet
  • Door Opening Alert
  • Intruder Alert
  • Pier Power Failure Alert
  • Battery level alert
  • Bilge Water Alert
  • Engine Temperature Alert
  • GPS tracking of the boat
  • Geofence: alert if the boat goes outside the defined perimeter of the mooring area

When the sensor is activated, it communicates via radio frequency with the box, which, equipped with a SIM card, transmits to the services on your smartphone in push-up mode. The dedicated mobile application is free and can be downloaded to your smartphone.
