Last week, a 24-foot sailboat had just left Redondo Beach, California, despite strong winds. Trying to turn around, the boat - which was carrying four boaters - got trapped by the waves that led them to the pier. The sailboat then capsized, throwing its passengers into the water and narrowly avoiding the wooden poles of the jetty.
The passengers managed to swim back to Redondo Beach, helped by the walkers attending the scene. The four people were then hospitalized for minor injuries. The sailboat was completely destroyed.
"Los Angeles County Fire Department lifeguards and the Redondo Beach Harbour patrol reached the area shortly after 7 p.m. and found the four victims who were near the wreckage of a 24-foot sailboat." said Lidia Barillas, LA County Fire Department spokesperson in Los Angeles Time.
