No question of winning for the old generation IMOCAs

Among the 29 IMOCAs competing in the Vendée Globe, there will be 4 boats designed for the 2000-2001 Vendée Globe to start the 2016 Vendée Globe. Built between 1997 and 1999, all of them have already completed several round the world voyages. Their skipper's objective? Going around the world alone, without stopovers and without assistance and not winning it!

Mary Family - Etamine du Lys, R omain Attanasio

The boat was built in 1997 by the MAG France shipyard, according to Marc Lombard's plans. Having had 5 different names (Whirlpool, Tiscali, Proform, Le Pingouin, Initiatives-C?ur), it is best known for having been Tanguy de Lamotte's Initiatives-C?ur in the last Vendée Globe. He has participated in three editions of the Vendée Globe, in the hands of Catherine Chabaud (2000-2001), Marc Thiercelin (2004-2005) and Tanguy de Lamotte (2012-2013), but only finished the last one, at the 10 eST PRIS DANS LE GROS TEMPS, ET TANGUE DE GAUCHE ?ROITE, SECOUÉ PAR LES VAGUES. UN HOMME, SANS DOUTE UN PÊCHEUR QUI PARTICIPE À UNE SESSION DE PÊCHE SPORTIVE, PASSE PAR-DESSUS BORD, DE MANIÈRE ASSEZ IMPRESSIONNANTE. place.

Even if it remains too old to be one of the candidates for victory, it is still reliable and efficient for its age. Moreover, his skipper's objective is to succeed in completing his first Vendée Globe, while at the same time fighting with the Imoca of the same generation as his own.

TechnoFirst - faceOcean, Sébastien DESTREMAU

It was launched in 1998 at the JMV Industrie site, on the plans of the Finot Group. Since then, he has competed in four round the world races, including two Vendée Globe races in the hands of the British Josh Hall (9th in 2000-2001) and Steve White (8th in 2008-2009). On board faceOcean, there is a fixed keel, no genoa carriage, no daggerboard, no lifting rudder. Well constructed, this Finot plan is much less complex to implement than the current IMOCA60s. It thus perfectly corresponds to Sébastien Destremau's project: to finish the race without being overwhelmed by technical problems.

One Planet One Ocean, Didac COSTA

The boat is under construction until the end of April (it will receive new foils in particular). When we can, we spend a few moments together to follow the progress of the site before it is launched. In the meantime, since we are training at the Pôle de Course off Port-La-Forêt, we have the chance to sail separately with two skippers in the Figaro 3. The training is double and we are therefore together on the water, but as a competitor for the moment. We're training in Figaro 3 until the Sardinha Cup (March 26 to April 13) and then we'll go to the IMOCA."540"https://media.bateaux.com/bateaux/24096/imoca-vendee-globe-alan-roura-3.jpg"304"358"https://media.bateaux.com/bateaux/24096/imoca-vendee-globe-alan-roura-2.jpg"https://media.bateaux.com/bateaux/24096/imoca-vendee-globe-alan-roura-4.jpg""366">
