A kite to transform your motor boat into a sailboat

Yves Parlier, skipper with many victories in the 90s, took advantage of the Maritime Festivals of Brest 2016 to launch the marketing of his "Liberty Kite" A kitesurfing-inspired wing that allows you to propel small boats and sail, even with the engine

The Liberty Kite is a wing inspired by the practice of kitesurfing and which allows you to tow pleasure craft (kayak, SUP, dinghy) and pleasure craft (outboard, sailboats...) under 10 m. This single-piece wing is specially designed for boat traction. The result of two years of research, it pulls perpendicular to the wind (crosswind) for greater safety. It is available in two sizes: 10 m2 (1740 ?) to 20 m2 (2340 ?) and can be superimposed with another wing to increase the surface area to the wind and adapt the traction according to wind conditions.

A fun and ecological way to travel at sea that will be useful in the event of a fuel shortage. This idea came to him during his dismasting during the Vendée Globe in 2000. With this stable wing system, boaters will be able to have an easy-to-use backup system on board. Wind energy also reduces boat fuel consumption.

Manoeuvrable by a single person from the deck of a boat, the kite does not require any significant knowledge in the field. It adapts to all types of boats and can be easily stowed on board (no rigid or inflatable structures.) With the wing, it is possible to sail in the crosswind or downwind or even upwind for boats equipped with a daggerboard.

This project is being led by sailor Yves Parlier, who made the golden age of nautical races in the 1990s (Transat Jacques Vabre, Route du Rhum, Mini Transat, Solitaire du Figaro, Vendée Globe...). Océa - which focuses on innovative nautical projects to reduce the ecological footprint - is the driving force behind this.
