A wireless wind vane anemometer at Garmin

With the GNX Wind, Garmin offers an entry-level wind sensor that allows you to imagine a connection to a more complete network.

The Garmin GNX Wind is for all small boats that don't need complex electronics, but still want to have wind information in the cockpit. The wind sensor, which must be placed at the masthead, does not require a wire connection. There is no need to run a wire up the mast, which reduces the weight in the topsides and makes it easier to dismast. It is recharged by a small solar panel integrated in its foot and communicates with the central unit by a proprietary Bluetooth.

The screen, which requires a 12 V power supply, simultaneously displays customizable numerical data on 2 lines (on the left of the screen) and a compass rose to visualize the actual and apparent wind direction information. In addition, a close-up magnifying glass can also be displayed.

Even if it is autonomous (it can work by itself on board), this device is NMEA 2000 compatible. Once connected to the network, it can retranscribe all the information that circulates on it.

Finally, its wireless connection to the wind vane also makes connections to other wireless devices of the brand like the Quatix 3 watch possible.

The GNX Wind's display can be flush-mounted or integrated into the boat's bulkhead. It consumes only 0.35 watt in daytime mode without backlighting and 0.4 watt in nighttime mode with a medium intensity backlight.
