Simply by taking an Anemomind box on board! This box is installed in a fixed way in the boat. With an internal inertia unit, it measures in 3 axes all the angles taken by the boat. In addition, an accelerometer records the accelerations. To complete the whole, a GPS is integrated inside the box. In addition to that, a NMEA 2000 connection recovers the information from the on-board central unit.
All the information is stored in memory in the box. Its memory allows it to store 10,000 hours of navigation. But storing data is not interesting. Transmitting and analyzing them is much more interesting. Thus, the Anemomind is in Wifi connection with a tablet or a smartphone. This one is used as a screen on board to display the information. The latter, thanks to a 3G or 4G connection can send the data to the ground. There, a server digests all these data, analyzes them and sends the corrected data back to the boat.
So the more you navigate, the more intelligent the Anemomind becomes. It is able to tell you in a situation your target course and speed. It takes into account the wind (force and angle), but also the sea thanks to its angle sensor and its accelerometer. For the navigator, all these corrections are transparent. The virtual coach takes care of everything and helps you to give the best of the boat.
The strength of this system is not in the on-board box, but in the computing power and the analysis performed on land by the server. A programming mission entrusted to a highly specialized mathematician.
The possibility to share your navigations
If the number one objective of the Anemomind is to serve as a coach on board, this system can also be used to share and analyze its navigations. Indeed, once all the information is transmitted and stored on land, it is easy to "replay" them to analyze them in detail.
