Grand Prix de l'École Navale - Franck Cammas, French champion in habitable monotype

The Ascencion bridge was the occasion to organize many regattas and in particular, the Grand Prix de l'Ecole Navale to consecrate the French champion in one-design cruising. After 4 days of racing - two of which were cancelled due to bad weather - it was finally Franck Cammas who won.

Thursday, May 14, cancelled races

The Grand Prix de l'École Navale was supposed to open this Thursday, May 14, but the bad weather conditions did not allow the start of the races. The races from Crozon-Morgat and Camaret were cancelled in the morning and it was necessary to wait until 5 pm to cancel the race from Lanvéoc, at the Naval School.

Friday 15 May, Cammas leads the provisional ranking

The 700 competitors were able to take the start of 35 races for the opening of the 14 e edition of the Grand Prix de l'Ecole Navale French Championship Monotypes Habitables. The Diam 24s set off from the Military School for the 8 races (4 races per group: white and grey) and the Speed crossing in Brest harbor. On the constructed courses, Vincent Riou (PRB) took the lead in the White ranking, winning the first two races of his group and finishing 2nd e and 4 e on the following races. In the Grey group, it was Franck Cammas (Groupama) who finished in 1st place, tied on points with Matthieu Souben (Prince de Bretagne).

In the general ranking, Franck Cammas takes the lead after a very good performance in the Speed Crossing.

Saturday May 16, a tight provisional ranking

The Diam 24s took the start of 3 races, by group and the coastal raid, which led the fleet under the Iroise bridge, in Brest. Before the raid, 3 leaders broke away from the rest of the fleet: Franck Cammas (Groupama), Pierre-Loic Berthet (Courrier Choc) and Xavier Revil (Spindrift). After the raid, the final part of which took place in a very short time, it was Vincent Riou (PRB) who won ahead of Xavier Revil.

In the general ranking, before the jury, Groupama is ahead of Spindrift by two points.

Sunday May 17, races cancelled and champions announced

Due to a very weak wind, the competition ended this Sunday, May 17th before noon, without the competitors having been able to race one last time. Only the Longtze and the Mach 6.50 were able to take the start in Lanvéoc-Poulmic, which did not call the ranking into question.

Who will win the Diam 24, Groupama or Spindrift?

Only 2 points separated the two teams and after a start in a very small wind, the race committee had to cancel the race because of the weak wind. In the absence of a race, it is therefore the leader of the day before who wins the title of French champion. Franck Cammas (Groupama) thus wins this victory.

"It was my first time sailing a Diam 24. So we came without pressure, even though the crew knew the boat well. Our objective was, of course, to do the best we could, as we are all competitors on board, but this victory is a little extra. My next sailing in Diam will be on the Tour de France à la Voile, as I will be sailing a lot in Nacra 17 (Olympic series) in the next few weeks and also participating in the first stage of the AC 45 circuit (America's Cup)" said Franck Cammas.

Podium Diam 24

Erwan Gourdon (SN Le Bono) won the 6 races of the event, taking the title of winner in the 7'50 monotype. Martin Bertrand (SR Rochelaises) is the winner in J80.
