Highlights of the 2014 Route du Rhum

From October 24th, until the boats leave, Saint-Malo will be the place to be for sailing. Numerous events will take place there, which visitors will be able to attend.

The opening of the village of the Route Du Rhum on October 24th in Saint-Malo will be the opportunity to participate in many events. Indeed, presentations by the skippers of today and yesterday are on the programme, as well as boat baptisms. It is therefore ten days, rich in emotion, that awaits visitors for this 10th edition of the event e edition of Transatlantique en solitaire. Here's the program of what not to miss!

Presentations of skippers

The skipper's introduction of this 10 e edition of the Route du Rhum, open to the public, will take place on Saturday 25th October at 6pm. Appointment made at the Lions' Den.

A presentation of the former Route du Rhum winners will take place on Friday, October 31 at 6:30 p.m. at the Esplanade de Saint-Vincent. Mike Birch, winner of the 1 re edition in 1978 aboard Olympus, a yellow trimaran of only 39 feet, Marc Pajot, winner in 1982, Philippe Poupon, winner in 1986, Florence Arthaud, winner of the 1990 edition, Laurent Bourgnon, winner of the 1,994 and 1,998 edition, Lionel Lemonchois, winner in 2006 and Franck Cammas in 2010.

In 2002, it was Michel Desjoyeaux who won the edition but he is currently on the Volvo Ocean Race with the Spanish team MAPFRE.

Boat trips

On Saturday 1 er november, from 13:00 for the Multi50s and the Rhum class monohulls, then at 15:15 departure from the pontoons of the Bourse de Maxi Spindrift 2 and Banque Populaire VII. Then it will be the turn of all the final boats. At 3.30 pm, opening of the Ultimate airlock by the former winners and at 4.30 pm, the last Ultimate boats will leave with the Rhum class multihulls.

On Sunday 2nd November, the IMOCA and Class 40 boats will be launched from 4:15 am.

The first one in the race journal

The first edition of the Diary of the race will start on Saturday, October 25th at 5 pm and will take place live from the village, on the Rum stage. Afterwards it will take place every day at 3 pm.
